House Call is an independent, supernatural short that plays on the audience’s fear of spooky language and imagery. After murdering her significant other and escaping seemingly scot-free, Janice is the victim of Black Magic and a bit of revenge.
This film looks rather clean, especially for an independent film. Combining this with a moderately effective soundtrack allows for a potentially dark atmosphere. Unfortunately, House Call lacks greatly in the plot and character elements, which, more than anything, results in the audience not caring either way about the character’s fates.
Despite much of this film looking nice (which is no easy task), House Call inspires more apathy than interest in it’s modest 15 minute run time.
